Thanks to a Tweet from Annie The Dice Bag Lady on Saturday (she is now stocking the Nuns and the Marion figure), I have now discovered that there is a company that produces figures inspired by the 1980’s series – Conquest Games. Robin Hood: The Legend of Sherwood is a strategy game with an emphasis on stealth and tactics, which allows you to play the role of the famous thief and visit England back when arrows and swords were cutting edge technology. It makes a great setting for gaming, but getting suitable minis has always been a little problematic – most miniatures on the market have always been a bit too ‘Errol Flynn’ or ‘Richard Greene’. Living, working and travelling in the forests of England was a dangeros business and Sherwood Forest, Nottingham was no different. The setting is the early 13th Century, but also includes a fair amount of myth and magic alongside the normal fair of the Robin Hood legend. There is an ongoing debate about whether Robin Hood really existed but many of the activities he did (like archery and thieving from the rich on the highways) are very likely to have happened.
